Ahh.....snakes and bats. Classic scary dream symbols. But not to worry! Your dream, though causing you terrible anxiety, is actually a positive dream!
Snakes - represents many different things, but usually the 'life-process'. If we think of a person's life from conception to death, we see a flowing, moving event. The snake depicts the force of energy behind that movement and purpose that leads us to both, growth and death... along with the passionate emotions and urges, that drive us so powerfully. So, in some dreams, the snake represents our sexuality, and vitality, throughout our life. In other dreams, the snake can represent creative, or poisonous, energy of our thoughts and emotions. In the destructive aspect, the snake represents the temptations, poisonous thoughts, and negative emotions that can destroy us. In the positive aspect, the snake represents a sharp awareness of the world around you, as well as a renewal of life and opportunities.
Because our life-energy flows into thinking and emotions, we are in this way directing the creative force of life. Directing it negatively, has the power to bring illness, or death....for we are dealing with the power of life and death itself. The opposite is true as well. The power of life and death can be directed creatively. In this way, the snake is seen in it's healing role in dreams. In ancient times, it was shown in the form of the staff with two snakes coiling up it. The caduceus is still used today as a symbol of the medical profession.
Because none of these snakes made an attack, or bit you, suggests the more positive aspects of the snake symbolism. That you are starting out life anew, and you feel there are many opportunities open to you.
Bats - Most bats are nocturnal predators and just thinking about these mysterious creatures gives most people an uneasy feeling (unless you are a bat lover, which is rare). Bats may be considered mysterious and unpredictable. The bat is also a symbol of the dark side of a dreamer's personality. But at the same time a bat is a symbol of a free will, freedom since it has wings. Since most bats have poor eyesight, but have an excellent sense of direction, this symbol suggests that your subconscious is telling you that you are using more intuition, rather than logic, and you might be 'blind' to something in your waking life.
Because you are in the dark, suggests you are facing 'the unknown'. Feeling that you are by yourself, suggests that you feel there are decisions you must make, and even with help, or support from others.. you will need to make the important 'life decisions' by yourself.

You've graduated and you've been in a relationship for 3 years....and at the tender age of 22. I'd say the world is pretty much wide open to you right now. Your subconscious is telling you to use your head, don't give in to 'temptations', or impulsive actions. You are free to get on with your new life, but make sure you look at all the possibilities open to you...lest you fly straight into a wall. Think with your head, as well as your heart.
Congratulations on your recent graduation and your field of study! Lord knows we could use more people that know how to communicate!!
I hope I've helped to allay some of your fear. Sweet Dreams!! J
