I've never had this kind of dream before. Hopefully someone can give me an idea to what it may mean...

   I had a dream within a dream last night! It was the scariest thing ever. It was all based over in the shopping center that is just a short walk away from my home. I was on the sidewalk, across from the middle school, and I crossed the road to head towards the shopping center.
    As I crossed the street, I saw someone walking behind me, out of the corner of my eye. I turned and looked at him, and stared for a moment, thinking he looked like someone I used to work with. When I realized it wasn?t him, I got a little nervous and continued walking, quickly, to get to where I was going. He began to follow me, and I got scared.
   On the sidewalk in the shopping center there was a food cart with people all around (it seemed more like a city than a little suburban shopping center). The man grabbed me, and asked me why I looked at him and then ran. I told him he looked like someone I knew, and when it wasn?t him, I hurried to get back to where I was going. He didn?t buy it (he thought it was a racial thing) and pulled out an exacto-knife. He stabbed me in my arms when I put them up to cover my face and chest, and I screamed. I broke away for a second and ran to the people at the food cart. I told them that he was trying to kill me, but they stared at me, dumbfounded, or completely ignored me. He grabbed me again, and stabbed me over and over again in my arms. I got away from him, and he was gone. Last thing I remembered was calling my mom to come get me.
   I don?t remember how it transitioned, but then I woke up (in the dream) and my arms were throbbing, and I could still feel the pain. Both, my mom and dad were home. My mom came to check on me, and said ?I can?t believe you called me all the way home for a dream.? I became agitated and yelled at her that it wasn?t a dream. I held my arm up and asked ?Does this look like a dream?? My arms were covered in wounds and I had a huge knot on one of my forearms. She didn?t know what to say. And that?s the last thing I remember. But when I woke up today (in real life) my arms were throbbing.

Road/Street - symbolizes the road in life....the journey that you take to achieve your goals....your sense of direction and pursuit of those goals. The road in the dream represents a road in your life. It could be the road to your heart, spirit, or mind. Consider the kind of road that your are on and try to see how it relates to your daily realities.
Crossing the road - represents a crossover in your life. Going from Adolescent to adult, from single to married, from young to middle-age, from living at home to living on your own, etc.

Shopping Center - represents desires, something you are looking for or want...love, fame, sex. Also business, and work.

Chased - In this dreams like this, you are usually being chased by some villains, monsters, or unknown people who wish to harm you. But often these pursuers represent current tensions, or issues. This dream usually shows the level of stress you have at the moment, and is a signal to take control over the worries and resolve issues with a clear head.
Alternately, you might be trying to avoid something. Identifying what, or who, the chaser represents might clarify what you're trying to avoid.  If the person or thing chasing you is identifiable as a part of yourself, the dream might involve a fear from within, such as an unhealthy relationship or unhealthy behavior.

Stranger - because he 'reminded' you of a past coworker, he may be a representative of someone currently in your life that is similar in actions or appearance. Examine how you related to him in the past to see who he may represent currently.

Attacked - suggests you feel as though you are 'under attack', or defenseless, somewhere in your waking life.

People ignoring you - may reflect your feeling of being ignored by people in your daily life. It could also suggest that you have a low feeling of self-worth, or low self esteem.

Arm(s) - an extension of yourself, a means of expression and protection. To see your arms as the emphasis in your dream, indicates your nurturing side, and your ability to reach out and care for people. Alternatively, it may represent the struggles and challenges in your life. Consider the phrase "arm yourself" which implies that you need to protect yourself, be more aggressive and take a firmer stance on things.

Right arm - symbolizes sending or giving, the creative/metaphysical self, and it signifies your supportive or nurturing nature, and is associated with feminine qualities.
Left arm - symbolizes receiving or bringing in, the social duty/physical self. and it signifies your logical nature and is associated with masculine energy.

To dream that your arm has been injured, signifies your feeling an inability to care for yourself or your helplessness in reaching out to others. You may have been feeling limited and restricted in terms of your freedom or activities.

You Mom being upset with you - suggests that although you feel something is important, you don't feel as though others will see it the same way. That people don't believe you when you tell them something. This could signify feeling insecure, unimportant, or feeling guilty about something in your waking life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes, a dream within a dream represents a feeling as though things in your waking life just can't be this way....that it must be a dream or a nightmare. Sometimes suggesting that you find it hard to accept reality, or that you are being told by others that "you need a reality check".
Your arms may have been throbbing because of the intensity of the dream, and you may have been thrashing them about.
Are you going through some sort of transition in your life?
Do you feel as though someone in your personal or business life is 'out to get you'?
Have you been dealing with a situation in your life without much emotion....or too much emotion?
Are you torn between something you want to do, and something you should do?
Has anyone accused you of 'living in a dream world', or has told you that you need a 'reality check'?
Do you always feel as though you need to prove yourself,...or defend your actions?
Do you feel as though you are being limited, or restricted, somewhere in your personal or business life?
Hope I helped in some way, best wishes!
