His dream might be reflecting his sadness and helplessness he feels, as well as his empathy with you, upon hearing about how you were abused.  He feels that even though he can relate to what you went through, he cannot help you, because he, himself, is still broken from his internal wounds given at the hands of his brothers.  Thus, his brothers are, in a sense, "holding him back" from being able to help you. 
It is a man's natural instinct to come to the rescue of his woman, so the fact that he cannot is distressing to him.

Perhaps the two of you could get some counseling?  As you each focus on getting healthier, forgiving your offenders, and growing personally,  you will also be able to be there for each other in healthier, more empowering ways.
