I was going on holiday to the lake district with my nan (who is currently very old and frail and does not leave the house) and my auntie rose (who is dead). We arrived at this horrible b+b that had a sign on the door saying that nobody under 30 could stay. It was pokey with lots of pipes with a repressive atmosphere. I went out by myself and found a charity shop. The old lady working there was chatting about everything in there. I looked at the books and was drawn to one of several bound in dark blue with gold trimmings. I opened it up and was transported to the beginnings of modern america and a decision by the president to hide emeralds in the spines of books. I felt the spine of the book and found an emerald about a centimetre and a half in diameter. The books were 50p each and i bought them all.

Holiday(vacation) - represents feeling the need for rest or relaxation.

Your Nan, and your autie Rose - The elderly usually always represent the need for guidance. They symbolize wisdom, patience and experience.

B&B(Hotel) - Temporary attitudes or way of life, a short-term situation, escape or separation from family or home situations, sexual activity outside the home life. For people such as businessmen/women, or media people...the hotel can represent work, or the persuance of work.
Because you view this place as horrible, dreary and depressing suggests you feel a disappointment, or a delay in something.

The 'Under 30' sign - symbolizes rules and restrictions....ones that displease you.

Charity shop - suggests thriftiness, and frugality.

Books - In our daily life, books are a source of information and a place to gain knowledge. They can be inspirational, and their messages are sometimes so strong that they change our lives. The books in our dreams can represent our memories, learned understanding, ideas, or viewpoints. They can alert us to the fact that we have something new to learn and that we should spend time on mastering new tasks. Pay attention to what kind of book you are seeing in your dream and its purpose in the larger context of the dream. Also, note reading any passages or specific messages from the book. At times the book may be pointing to new themes or purposes in your life. Pay attention! The unconscious mind is constantly making attempts to communicate with the conscious in such ways that the dreamer will recognize it without panic or denial. Superstition-based dream interpretations say that if you are dreaming of books, you can be assured of slow but steady progress in your life.

Blue has always something to do with intellectual and spiritual events, insights, experiences, and mental processes.  Blue is a symbol of emotional contentment that we all would like to attain. It indicates that you want to live wisely and with compassion. Blue stands for intellectual goals, insight, faith, spiritual maturity, enlightenment, relief from worry, and assistance from outside sources.
Dark blue - depression, negative thoughts, and aggression.
Light blue - the sense of intuition, having a wide awareness of life, religious feelings, and the 'coolness' of nature.
Soft gentle blue - a typically feminine color, representing the nurturing and emotional expression.
* Blue may sometimes symbolize the universal or collective unconscious (as distinct from the individual unconscious). Perhaps the dream is asking you to base your life on intuitions that come from a deep source within your psyche.
* Alternatively, blue may represent the power of the conscious mind, particularly if it is the blue of the sky.
* The blue sea may symbolize the unconscious or the feminine (anima, mother, or Great Mother, the wise self).
* At an advanced level of mystical awareness, blue may represent the primal energy from which the universal life-force comes.

Gold - Symbolically, the colour gold has connections with the sun and may represent new life, self-renewal; some new development in your psyche.
Gold, as something valuable, may symbolize either your true self, as distinct from your conscious ego, or some faculity in your psyche which, if accepted and activated, could bring you closer to your real self.

Emerald - symbolizes personal growth and awareness of connection with 'the natural' in life. Also, represents a need for prosterity, and harmony in your life.

Have you been planning something, but have had to delay, or put it off for a bit?
Are you feeling the need for some guidance, or wise advice, about something?
Have you been feeling a bit restricted lately....due to work, finances...etc?
Are you feeling the need for a vacation, or just some time away from stress?

Hope this helps, Best wishes!!!

Your insight much appreciated. I am currently in my final year of study for a postgrad in fine art, living on a pittance, and living rent free with a male friend who fancies me. So relationships are pretty much out of the question! My work has become more intuitive and open recently, drawing on natural forms and phenomenon, and my intuitive ability to read people has also developed. I was bought up by my nan and now she is so old and frail that the roles have reversed so I do feel the absence of close parental figure. When the course finishes i will hopefully be able to get enough money to rent my own place.
many thanks.
