I'm 26 year old single male, I keep dreaming about my dog, really sad dreams. Sometimes they start fine, even happy that he's there, but they always end up sad. Each dream is different, but similar in that he gets really sick or he's really old and usually dying. Whenever he's introduced in the dreams he seems to be following me or needs my help with something, and I feel like sometimes I'm talking to someone about how bad he's getting. It usually ends up with him on the verge of dying and I wake up bawling like a child. I'm having these dreams at LEAST 3 nights a week. It started less frequent a couple months ago, but it's gotten crazy lately. He died about 7 years ago but these dreams have suddenly started haunting me. Any ideas?

The dog is sometimes called "man's best friend." A dog is also a creature of lower intelligence than man.  Putting these things together, I believe that dreaming of your pet dog can symbolize issues with your physical body. Our bodies are our "best friends," in that they are our vehicles for going through life, but they are also part of our "lower nature," so to speak.
My hunch is that your dream is saying that you should start taking better care of your body-- eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising, yada yada yada...

I might be wrong, though. Does this seem to fit?  If not, we'll try a different interpretation.
