Hi..... I myself would see the White Orchids as being a good sign ...... White meaning purity, peace ,happiness , etc .... When I think of flowers I think of spring which is  New beginnings..... Flowers regrow .....see? ..........
Also white makes me think of God, higher power, angels , guides, etc.....
Also on a personal note, though your mom may not like the guy , it is your life and your choices. Don't live your life for another. Always be true to your heart.
