In my dream, I am somehow aware of the fact that the police have captured someone who wants to kill me.  At some later point, I have found out that he has escaped their custody.  As soon as I find out that he is on the loose, I go to lock the front door.  As soon as I make it to the door, he is there and forces his way inside.  I see who he is and it is someone that I went to high school with, Clay, (I was never friends with him, I only knew who he was) he immediately sprints to a table where I am keeping a gun and I chase after him - and at first I am amazed that I think I see him pick up a kitchen lighter instead of the gun (the lighter looks like this http://www.chinatraderonline.com/Files/lighters-smoking/Lighter/Gas-Lighter/Kitchen-Lighter-22445035403.jpg) however, when I do catch up to him, I realize that it is, in fact, the gun.  He points it at me and I immediately grab the barrel and point it away from myself and then I completely wrestle the gun away from him.  I now have him at gun point and begin thinking to myself, "I can keep under control" because for some reason I know that the police are on there way.

What might be some of the meanings behind this dream?

Thanks

Clay represents, or is reminding you of someone in your current life.

The lighter is represetative of fire, and fire suggests extreme emotions....passion, anger, hate, etc.

That he wants to kill you suggests you feel that you are under attack from someone in your waking life. That he was captured but escaped, suggests you feel this person that is 'attacking' you in your waking life, has been warned about his behavior, but yet he persists. Or that others, besides yourself, are aware of his behavior.

Weapons - represent an aggressive feeling of antipathy, or hatred, and are associated with physical violence. (That you feel if 'so & so' gets hurt, he deserved it).

Violence - represents the facets of personality that never get displayed in waking life, and can become quite animated. Nowhere is this more apparent than with violent behavior. The violence may be justified or random, but it is often extremely graphic. It is so graphic, in fact, that you should understand that this is normal, although upsetting, ..and that it's presence is almost always an exaggeration of another point, and is a way for your subconscious to vent anger, and physical aggression.
Violence can also be an off-shoot of heroic behavior,....ie: feeling the need to protect someone, or their reputation.

Maintaining control suggests your ability to remain calm in the most stressful of situations.
The police suggests you feel the need for control in some area, or some siuation, in your life....and possibly a mediation of an authority figure between you and another person.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there someone at work, home, school, that you are having a particular problem with, or is causing undue stress?
Are you feeling the need for intervention from an authority figure... boss, parent, friend, or teacher?
Have you been 'biting your tongue' about a situation lately, or holding back your opinion, or anger?
Hope this helps you out. Best of luck!
